ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - After months of planning and meetings with the county, Baum Investments LLC. pulled out on their application for developing on Boyers Road.

The project would have constructed 35 new apartments and 23 new townhomes facing the Barrington neighborhood, as well as a storage unit facility in the back of the property.

Developers pulled out Wednesday evening right before a public hearing at the county’s board of supervisors meeting. In a statement, developers said they made the decision because there was not much support from neighbors in the area.

Steve Hertzenberg, a resident against the development, said he was thankful for the developer’s reconsideration.

“We didn’t think it was consistent with UDA and so the fact that it was pulled off so either they or someone else could rethink and perhaps develop it in a way that is consistent with the UDA that’s all we wanted,” Hertzenberg said.

Hertzenberg said he and many other neighbors would like to speak with county officials to get a better understanding of the area’s Urban Development Area plan.
