Wanted Waynesboro shooting suspect has been arrested

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) - In a joint effort by Waynesboro Police Department, Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Mountain State Fugitive Task Force, Justin William Brooks has been arrested in Berkeley County, WV.

Brooks is currently awaiting extradition to Waynesboro to stand trial for his alleged crimes.

Based on the investigation, the following warrants were issued against the 29-year-old for these alleged offenses:

1. 1. 18.2-51       Malicious Shoot Class 3 Felony

2. 2. 18.2-279     Maliciously Shoot w/intent to maim Class 4

Felony

3. 3. 18.2-53.1    Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony

Unclassed Felony

4. 4. 18.2-57.2    Domestic Assault Class 1 Misdemeanor

5. 5. 18.2-51.2    Malicious Wounding Class 2 Felony

6. 18.2-308.2      Possess Firearm by Convicted Violent Felon

Class 6 Felony

7. 18.2-308.4      Poss. of a Firearm with Sch. 1 or 2 Drug Class 6

Felony

8. 8. 18.2-250     Possession of Methamphetamine Class 5 Felony

Police in Waynesboro are looking for a man wanted in connection to a shooting on Tuesday morning.

Justin William Brooks, 29, of Waynesboro is considered armed and dangerous.

According to the Waynesboro Police Department, Brooks shot a person during a dispute at a home on the 1000 block of East Main Street. When police responded just after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers found an adult with a gunshot wound. Brooks allegedly left before police arrived.

Police said they issued several warrants against Brooks which include shooting, weapons, domestic assault and drug charges.

The victim was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment.
